Improved pedestrian and driver safety at Main and Bridge Street intersection

Lithgow Council

Weather permitting, the intersection at Main Street and Bridge Street will be closed Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th April 9pm – 3am to facilitate line marking and the installation of a temporary refuge island. This will narrow the carriageway on Main Street turning left into Bridge Street to reduce blind spots.

Through Streets as Shared Spaces funding, the project enables Council to trial recommendations from the CBD Revitalisation Plan to make the intersection at Bridge Street and Main Street safer and welcoming for both pedestrians and drivers. The minor works will also test traffic calming recommendations from the NSW Government’s Road Safety Plan 2021 for safer vehicle movement.

“The Streets as Shared Spaces funding is a unique opportunity to trial additional control measures at the busy intersection before implementing permanent change,” Mayor Ray Thompson said. “These works and recent enhancements at Pioneer Park aim to deliver a green and safe space for the community on Main Street.”

Proudly funded by the NSW Government.
