The Andrews Labor Government will improve the Apollo Bay Harbour – keeping it safe for boaters, fishers and tourists.
Minister for Ports and Freight Melissa Horne today visited the harbour to announce $1.3 million to carry out works including the dredging of the main harbour channel to improve access for boats.
The works will also involve vital maintenance and improvements to the breakwater, and the repair of the slipway winch, which pulls boats into the dry dock.
The upgraded harbour and facilities will support the port manager and the Apollo Bay Fishing Cooperative by future proofing the main navigation channel, berths and unloading areas for ongoing use.
Colac Otway Shire manages the Apollo Bay Harbour, which generates $6.5 million annually for the local economy. It also provides safe berthing and mooring for around 40 vessels, including two for tourist charters.
The Labor Government is investing in local ports across the state – to upgrade and carry out maintenance to improve facilities for fishers, boaters, anglers, tourists and local communities.
