Campaspe Shire Council is planning for this year’s Street Tree Planting Program which will see a number of new trees planted in nature strips, parks and gardens across the shire.

General Manager Infrastructure, Jason Deller said the long term goal of the program is to have a street tree in front of every property if the location is suitable.

“Residents of Campaspe are encouraged to improve the region’s environment, image and amenity by requesting a street tree for their urban nature strip,” Dr Deller said.

Now open, expressions of interest will close at the end of February with planting planned to start in May and run through to August.

“Requests will be assessed by Council’s Arborist and, if approved, added to this year’s Street Tree Planting Program,” Dr Deller said.

Multiple factors are considered when determining the best tree species to be planted including:

  • Neighbourhood character
  • Height of the tree species
  • Other trees are in the surrounding area
  • Local conditions and climate
  • Strategies or planning scheme requirements

Successful applicants will be asked to assist with initial watering and care.

“The annual program visually improves residential streetscapes, creates shade and is great for the environment,” Dr Deller said.
