Improving mental health in Tasmanian workplaces

Elise Archer,Minister for Building and Construction

A new free online tool designed to help employers across Australia create mentally healthy workplaces and meet their responsibilities under work health and safety laws has been launched today.

‘People at Work’ is Australia’s only validated psychosocial risk assessment tool and will help Tasmanian businesses identify, assess and manage work-related psychosocial hazards and factors, without the need for an expert to interpret the assessment results.

The free tool enables employers to send a clear message to their workers that they value their mental health and wellbeing.

It is expected that employers will also benefit from reduced workers’ compensation claims and improved worker productivity, satisfaction and engagement once the hazards identified by People at Work have been addressed. The hazards measured by People at Work are based on decades of research.

The online platform also provides an easy-to-follow five-step process with resources, interactive learning modules, a self-administered survey and automated custom reports.

People at Work has been jointly funded by Australian work health and safety regulators, including WorkSafe Tasmania through the WorkCover Tasmania Board.

As the Minister responsible I am very pleased this initiative builds on the awareness created through the ‘Safety is Everything’ campaign in 2019, which encouraged Tasmanians to spot the psychological hazards in the workplace.
