The completion of a new inclusive playspace has been celebrated through an official opening of the Hunter Park Inclusive Playspace at Balmoral.
Parliamentary Secretary for Planning and Public Spaces Stephen Bali joined Mosman Mayor Carolyn Corrigan at the event.
The playspace features accessible pathways, picnic tables and new play equipment, including a sand table with spaces for wheelchairs and a ramp providing access to a sandpit digger. The park also has an accessible trampoline built into the ground, as well as an inclusive swing. Other works include new rubber softfall surface and landscaping and the addition of an accessible car space next to the playground.
The project was completed as part of Mosman Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2022-26 and was developed with funding from the NSW Department of Planning’s Everyone Can Play program.
The program makes a commitment to inclusive playspaces, delivering infrastructure that is essential for communities, increasing access to open space.
Mayor Corrigan said the project was part of Council’s ongoing efforts to make Mosman a more inclusive place to live.
“This is a wonderful space that children of all abilities can enjoy,” she said.
“Mosman is a caring and supportive community and projects such as this playground make it even more inclusive for the benefit of everyone.”
Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said the NSW Government committed $70,000 for the park upgrade through the Everyone Can Play Program.
“This inclusive playspace is part of the NSW Government’s commitment to delivering great public spaces for communities throughout the state,” Mr Scully said.
Mr Bali said the improvements are great additions to this popular park that will be enjoyed for years to come.
