Increased transparency for Tasmania’s iconic salmon industry

Guy Barnett,Minister for Primary Industries and Water

The Tasmanian majority Liberal Government strongly supports responsible and sustainable growth in the Salmon Industry, which is a valuable social and economic contributor providing thousands of direct and indirect jobs, many of which are in regional areas.

Through our Sustainable Industry Growth Plan for the Salmon Industry, we are supporting that growth with a strong regulatory framework, so we can be the most environmentally sustainable salmon industry in the world.

The Government and salmon industry are working to provide even greater transparency on the regulation and management of the sector and have made improvements to the website that brings together information from across the sector and regulatory bodies.

The website https://salmonfarming.dpipwe.tas.gov.au/ demonstrates our commitment to maintain public confidence in the industry.

The website includes maps of current marine farming development plan areas in the State and information including environmental, fish health and operational compliance.

Through our Sustainable Growth Plan and regulatory measures, we have provided the blueprint to further grow an industry that is a key part of the Tasmanian Brand, and one all Tasmanians can be proud of.
