One-million dollars in capital expenditure will be injected into the Townsville economy following the settlement of new land within the Bohle Industrial Estate, enabling a family-owned transport business to expand.
Member for Townsville Scott Stewart said the Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) industrial precinct for medium-impact industries offers opportunities for local businesses to prosper, creating more jobs for Bohle locals.
“The purchaser of Lot 18, Griggs Haulage Contractors, provides building solutions such as gravel, heavy haulage, plant and equipment services,” Mr Stewart said.
“With an additional 1.16 hectares of land, Griggs Haulage Contractors can now increase its operations and employee-base by 34 per cent over the next two years, from 35 jobs currently to 47 jobs.
“With strengths across a wide variety of sectors, including resources and defence, Townsville is a hub for economic activity and trade in Queensland.
“Land sales like this will help grow jobs and generate investment in our region for years to come.”
Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning, Cameron Dick said the estate was well-established for industry.
“Bohle is a great location as it’s strategically located in Townville’s premier industrial precinct,” Mr Dick said.
“EDQ industrial precincts like Bohle are attractive for business, and securing sales like this is helping our government drive employment in Queensland.”
Griggs Haulage Contractors Founder and Company Director Stephen Griggs said the company has been family-owned and operated since 1990 and this year celebrates 29 years in business.
“We started with one truck and now we operate a fleet of 40 trucks, 74 trailers, five front-end loaders, two John Deere spreading tractors and various support vehicles to meet the needs of the North Queensland market – including regular work for local and state government projects,” Mr Griggs said.
“We’re the sole contractor for the transport and application of Liquid Biodunder in the Burdekin Region and are dedicated to providing the best transportation service in north Queensland.
“The estate conveniently fronts Ingham Road, offering direct access to the Bruce Highway, and with large lot frontages, it provides easy access for our transportation vehicles.”
Bohle Industrial Estate is 13.5 km from the Port of Townsville, 10 km from the Townsville Central Business District, and 5.3 km from the Townsville airport.
EDQ develops, sells and leases industrial real estate throughout Queensland to meet demand for industrial property.
