The appointment of Emeritus Professor Tracey Horton AO as Chair of the Australian Industry and Skills
Committee (AISC) has been welcomed by the Independent Tertiary Education Council Australia (ITECA).
the peak body representing independent providers in the higher education, vocational education, training
and skills sector.
Tasked with giving industry a formal role in approving VET training packages for implementation, the
independent tertiary education sector looks to AISC to strengthen industry engagement to drive
improvements for courses and training based on industry need.
“As technology and work practices rapidly evolve, we need qualifications that reflect contemporary
practice. The work of the AISC is vital to achieving this,” said Mr Troy Williams, ITECA Chief Executive.
Professor Horton’ s experience includes appointments to the Australian Takeovers Panel, the national
Board of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and as a Commissioner for Tourism Western
Australia. This has been augmented by previously having served as Chair of Navitas Limited and as the
Winthrop Professor and Dean of the University of Western Australia’s Business School.
“The independent tertiary education sector looks forward to working with Ms Horton to ensure that
Australia’s vocational qualifications provid e the skills that students and their employers are looking for,”
Mr Williams said.
