Information for bore water users in Edithvale, Chelsea and Bonbeach

Recent groundwater monitoring surveys found groundwater in this area contains industrial and naturally occurring chemicals and is not suitable for drinking.

If you don’t have a bore on your property, this groundwater contamination (approximately 1–6 metres below the ground) will not affect you. Please continue to use tap water.

If you don’t have a bore or if you have a bore but do not use it there is nothing you need to do. Environment Protection Authority (EPA) Victoria considered the groundwater test results against national water standards and advises residents using bore water at their property to consider the following precautionary measures:

  • If you have a residential groundwater bore at your property that is in use, you should not be using this for drinking water supply.
  • There are some areas where the water is more contaminated than others. If you are using the water from a bore for your garden, pets or animals or recreational uses (for example, filing a pool) you should check the quality of that water to ensure it is suitable for that purpose. EPA can assist with this.
