Inquiries into critical incident continue at Ballina, NSW

Police are appealing for witnesses after a critical incident was declared following a pursuit in the state’s north.

About 7.35pm (Friday 7 May 2021), officers attached to Richmond Police District attempted to stop a vehicle on the Pacific Highway, Ballina.

When the vehicle failed to stop a pursuit was initiated but was terminated a short time later.

The vehicle and a truck were then involved in a head on crash.

The male driver was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital where he remains in intensive care.

A critical incident team from Coffs-Clarence Police District has commenced an investigation into all circumstances surrounding the incident.

That investigation will be subject to independent review.

As a part of their inquiries, police are urging anyone who may’ve witnessed the crash, or has dashcam footage from the area at the time, to contact detectives at Coffs Harbour Police Station or Crime Stoppers.
