Inquiries underway after scooter rider injured in crash with stolen ute – Tamworth

Police are investigating after a man riding a scooter was seriously injured when he was involved in a crash with a stolen ute in Tamworth overnight.

Between 9.30pm and 1.00am on Saturday 16 March 2024, a white Holden Colorado was reported stolen from a home in Gunnedah.

About 11.35pm Saturday 16 March 2024, emergency services were called to Jean Street, Tamworth, following reports of a crash.

Officers from Oxley Police District arrived to find a 31-year-old man with serious injuries to his head and leg, and his electric scooter significantly damaged.

Following a canvass of the neighbourhood, police have seized CCTV which shows a crash between the vehicle about 9.35pm. The ute then leaves the scene.

The rider, who is from West Tamworth, has been taken to Tamworth Base Hospital in a stable condition.

A crime scene has been established and police, with the assistance of the Crash Investigation Unit, are investigating the circumstance surrounding the crash.
