Inquiry Into City of Perth – Fraud Charges

Financial Crimes Squad detectives have charged two people as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of criminal misconduct associated with persons linked to the City of Perth.

It will be alleged the 61-year-old man and 60-year-old woman, who are related to a former City of Perth Councillor, engaged in fraudulent conduct with the former City of Perth Councillor in order to be able to vote in City of Perth elections.

It will be alleged in 2017 the man and woman, in concert with the former City of Perth Councillor, falsified a Corporate Nomination Form, fraudulently claiming to be involved in the nominated business and to occupy the nominated business premises located within the City of Perth local government boundary. The nominated business and the property listed on the form were under the control of the former City of Perth Councillor. Had they not falsified the Corporate Nomination Form they would not have been eligible to vote.

The former City of Perth Councillor has already been charged in relation to this matter.

A 61-year-old man and 60-year-old woman, who are both from Stirling, have each been charged with:

– With Intent to Defraud Forges a Record; and

– With Intent to Defraud Utters a Forged Record.

They are both due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today, Friday 21 August 2020.
