An investigation is underway into the cause of a fire which destroyed a shed and two cars in Eastwood overnight.
About 10pm yesterday (Sunday 27 December 2020), police and other emergency services responded to reports of a fire at a large shed in Rowe Street, Eastwood.
While Fire and Rescue NSW worked to extinguish the blaze, officers from Ryde Police Area Command evacuated between 30 and 40 residents of a nearby unit complex as a precaution.
Diners at several restaurants adjacent to the site were also evacuated. There have been no reports of injuries.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze before midnight; however, the shed and two cars were destroyed and a third vehicle extensively damaged.
Investigations are now underway into the cause of the blaze.
A crime scene has been established and a police guard in place overnight until daylight when it will be determined if the site is safe to examine.
