Introducing ALDI’s latest wine winners

ALDI’s famed wine range has done it again, with three of our amazing drops receiving top medals in the 40th Sydney International Wine Competition 2020 (SIWC):

  • Veuve Monsigny Brut Champagne – Top 100 – $21.99
  • One Road Goulburn & King Valley Cabernet Merlot 2018 – Blue Gold – $6.99
  • A.C. Byrne & Co Margaret River Cabernet Merlot 2018 – Blue Gold – $9.99

The annual SIWC competition sees wines judged based on their attributes when paired with food. Sydney International Wine Competition Chair of Judges, Warren Gibson, said that the wines that made it through to medal contention were of the highest quality and “good food wines”.

Our popular Veuve Monsigny Brut Champagne is much-loved among our customers for its incredible value, and has now earned a place in the SIWC Top 100. Judges highlighted the Champagne’s intense dried apple and nutty flavor, a signature of high quality Champagne.

For the A.C. Byrne & Co Margaret River Cabernet Merlot, many of the judges commented on its black fruits, which one judge described as “rich ripe berry fruit on the palate with clean bright-integrated tannins”. Another judge noted that “the palate is clean, bright and delicious with a really appealing juiciness.”

Our One Road Goulburn & King Valley Cabernet Merlot was paired with Wagyu, Potato Gratin and Fennel Salad, and the judges were impressed by this perfect match. One noted that “the savouriness of the wine paired well with the dish, a peaceful match”, while another enjoyed the wine’s “dark fruits with hints of blackberry and liquorice” and “ripe cherry flavours”.

That wasn’t the only One Road wine to take the spotlight recently though. Our One Road South Australia & Heathcote Road Shiraz 2018 has taken top spot with gold at the Great Australian Shiraz Challenge 2019. This Shiraz has won gold three years in a row, proving that yet again ALDI arguably has the best value Shiraz in Australia! It is highly unusual for any wine to win gold in the same show three years in a row, let alone a wine that retails for a mere $6.99.

To top off these esteemed awards, this week our South Point Estate Rosé was voted Australia’s number one favourite ALDI product in our ‘The People’s Picks’ consumer voted awards. The rose is one of our most affordable wines in our range, with a price tag of just $4.99.

Whether consumer awarded or expertly judged, ALDI’s wine range truly has amassed a loyal fan following.
