Investigation into serious pedestrian crash, NSW

A man is in a critical condition following a pedestrian crash in Sydney’s west this afternoon.

About 2pm (Monday 21 June 2021), emergency services were called to the intersection of Torrens Street and Sherwood Road, Merrylands West, following reports of a crash between a Toyota Yaris and a 68-year-old male pedestrian.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the pedestrian at the scene before taking him to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command established a crime scene, which will be examined by specialist police from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.

The male driver of the Toyota was uninjured. He has been taken to Westmead Hospital for mandatory testing.

Local traffic diversions are currently in place and motorist are urged to avoid the area.
