Investigation underway into suspicious fire – Dharruk

An investigation is underway into a suspicious fire at a home in Sydney’s west overnight.

About 1.40am (Sunday 2 July 2023), emergency services were called to Cumbernauld Crescent at Dharruk where they found a home well-alight.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze; however, the home sustained significant damage.

Officers from Mt Druitt Police Area Command attended and were told the fire started in a vehicle parked in a carport before spreading to the house.

The sole occupant, a man aged in his 60s, wasn’t injured.

A crime scene was established which continues to be forensically examined today.

Detectives are treating the fire as suspicious and were told a person was seen running from the home shortly after the fire ignited.
