Investigators seeking witnesses to sexual assault in 2017

Detectives continue to investigate a sexual assault at Glenelg on Melbourne Cup Day in 2017 and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The incident allegedly occurred in public toilets situated in a laneway which runs between the Town Hall and the Beach House just before 10.30pm on Tuesday 7 November.

Detectives from Sturt CIB arrested a 24-year-old Clarence Gardens man in late November (2017) and charged with two counts of rape, indecent assault and assault.

During the investigation, detectives identified a maroon sedan, possibly a Ford with distinctive rims, parked at the rear of the Glenelg Public Library in Hope Street. It is believed two men exited the sedan and entered the toilet block. Extensive enquiries have failed to identify the registered owner of the car or the two men who may have witnessed the sexual assault. Police are now appealing for those men to come forward.

Anyone with information about the maroon car or the two men who may have witnessed the assault, is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au
