A further 34 community organisations have been successful in receiving an Investing in Queensland Women grant to deliver initiatives that advance gender equality and empower Queensland women.
Minister for Women and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence Shannon Fentiman said the organisations would share in $270,000 in funding.
“The success of Queensland women and girls is essential in achieving gender equality,” Minister Fentiman said.
“These grants of up to $15,000 for each organisation will see women empowered across the State, boosting our economy and our communities.
“The initiatives in this round focus on a broad range of issues including domestic and family violence prevention, healthy relationships, women’s health and wellbeing and women’s mentoring.
“It’s great to see these fantastic projects will be delivered right across the state in places such as Cairns, Townsville, the Darling Downs, Charleville, Gladstone Hervey Bay and the south-east corner.
“They encapsulate a diverse range of women and girls with many different lived experiences.
“This includes women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, the LGBTQI+ community, people with disabilities and those living in rural and remote parts of our state.”
Among the funded initiatives to begin within the next six months are:
- A new mentoring program organised by Women in Technology that will see 30 young women from regional areas mentored to develop skills in the STEM industry and leadership.
- A collaboration between Children by Choice Association and WWILD to create resources for women with intellectual or learning disabilities to consider pregnancy options, contraception, consent and to recognise the signs of reproductive coercion and abuse.
- Workshops on mental health resilience delivered by the Carers Foundation for female teenage carers.
- A new ‘words of survivors’ social media campaign developed by the Queensland Sexual Assault Network, which will be presented during Sexual Violence Prevention Month in October.
Minister Fentiman said all of the funded projects aligned with the new Queensland Women’s Strategy and the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to support and encourage women and girls to participate in all aspects of society.
“Since launching the Investing in Queensland Women grants program in February last year, more than 90 grants have been provided, totalling almost $810,000 to support community initiatives,” Minister Fentiman said.
“I want to congratulate all the successful recipients in this round and acknowledge their hard work in making Queensland a safer place for women and girls.
“I also encourage organisations to start thinking about creative new initiatives and partnerships and apply for the next round of the grant program, which opens in July.”
