It’s International Midwives Day

The caring nature, flexibility and resilience of Australian midwives has been acknowledged today, International Midwives Day.

Horsham Rural City Council Mayor Mark Radford saluted all midwives across our region.

“2020 has brought many unexpected challenges with the COVID-19 pandemic that is impacting on us all in so many ways,” Cr Radford said.

“The midwives in our community do an amazing job. We have a midwife in our own family and, the ‘baby catchers’ as she refers to them, are there to assist mothers, fathers and their babies at this critical time – before during and after the birth.

Based at the Kalkee Road Children’s and Community Hub, HRCC’s Maternal and Child Health service is staffed by registered nurses with qualifications in midwifery and family and children’s health.

The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) program has continued to provide services to families through a mixture of in-person and telephone consultations.

It was Barbara Katz Rothman who said “It’s not just the making of babies, but the making of mothers that midwives see as the miracle of birth”.
