It’s time to prepare for Summer

It’s time for residents to prepare for the hot summer months by cleaning up around their properties before the fire danger period arrives.

Greater Bendigo residents can now dispose of their green waste for free all year round at the City of Greater Bendigo’s Eaglehawk Landfill and the Heathcote and Goornong Transfer Stations.

City of Greater Bendigo Acting Presentation and Assets Director Brett Martini said with residents able to dispose of their excess domestic green waste all year round for free, there is no excuse not to be prepared for summer.

“While residents are using their organics bins, Spring growth can result in an excess of green waste to get rid of,” Mr Martini said.

“The fire danger period generally commences at the start of December so residents who haven’t already done so, should do so immediately to ensure they are prepared.

“Residents who take the time to keep their properties clear of vegetation will help minimise fire risk during the summer months and decrease the amount of work they need to do in the garden.”

Only green waste from residential properties will be accepted free of charge. Commercial vehicles will be charged a disposal fee.

The Eaglehawk Landfill is open daily from 8am until 4.00pm (Monday to Friday and 8am to 4.30pm on weekends. The Heathcote Transfer Station is open from 8am to 5pm Wednesday, Thursday Saturday and Sunday and Goornong Transfer Station is open 8am to 5pm on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
