The vote that will define the future of the Rockhampton Region is now open, and Council is urging residents to seize the opportunity to have their say.

Across the region letters have arrived from the Local Government Boundary Change Commission with voting details for the proposed transfer of Glenlee, Rockyview and Glendale to Rockhampton.

Mayor Tony Williams said this is a chance for all of us to vote ‘yes’ and help shape our community.

“There aren’t many moments that come along like this one,” Mayor Williams said.

“Whether you vote online or post your reply it will only take a couple of minutes, but the impact will last for decades.

“Residents in the Northern Suburbs are already part of our community, and they have voted three times to be included in our region.

“This vote is not only a chance to support what these suburbs want, it’s also about forging a community that can grow as our children grow. One with more facilities, more services and better opportunities.

“It’s a future that we believe isn’t just better for every resident in the Rockhampton Region but better for the broader region, because we’re strongest when we’re all able to grow.

“If you’re undecided on this vote or think it doesn’t impact you I would really encourage you to find out more and take the time to submit your vote.

“This decision is critical to our whole community and your voice matters.

“We have a lot of information on our website, and submissions from both Councils are available on the Electoral Commission Queensland (ECQ) website.
