It’s up to YOU’th this NSW Youth Week

Port Stephen

Skating, scootering, splashing, snacking and outdoor cinemas are the highlights of this year’s NSW Youth Week celebrations.

Thousands of young people across NSW aged 12 to 25 get together to share ideas, attend live events and celebrate their contribution to our community from 4 to 14 April 2022.

Port Stephens Council’s Vibrant Places Coordinator Portia Wendt says it’s a great opportunity for young people to connect, express their ideas and views and create and enjoy activities and events.

“Through our engagement with local high schools and young people over the last year, we’ve created a calendar of events for Youth Week 2022 that captures their every desire.

“After being in lockdown for most of 2021 and part of 2022, our young people are keen to get together, face to face and we’ve got them covered thanks to our partnerships with local youth providers”, Mrs Wendt said.

The events will kick off with an art workshop, open mic session, live DJ music and a skate and scooter competition to celebrate the official opening of the recently completed Mallabula Recreation Hub.

Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer says Youth Week is the largest celebration for young people in Australia and an important week on the local calendar.

“Port Stephens Council and our Youth Advisory Panel are proud to support Youth Week. We’re lucky to have so many passionate and driven young people in Port Stephens, and this is a great opportunity for local young people to have a good time and celebrate their contribution to the community,” Mayor Palmer said.

“This year, we’re really excited to be partnering with a number of youth service providers across Port Stephens who all contribute to the community in different but incredibly meaningful ways”, he added.

Council is partnering with UP&UP, Totem, PCYC Port Stephens – Nelson Bay, Lakeside Leisure Centre and Snak N Rap to bring these events to the community.
