JETSTAR OPENS NEW PERTH CABIN CREW BASE AS QANTAS GROUP BACKS WA JOBS AND AVIATION TRAINING INVESTMENT

The Qantas Group has opened a new Jetstar cabin crew base in Perth, unveiled a purpose-built Emergency Procedures Training Centre and completed the first cabin upgrade for its fleet of aircraft servicing the West Australian resources sector.

Together, the investments strengthen the Group’s long-term presence in Western Australia, creating local jobs, building training capability and helping support the continued expansion of the Group’s network from Perth.

Jetstar opens new Perth cabin crew base

The new Perth cabin crew base launched this month with 40 cabin crew and plans to expand to 90 local roles as Jetstar continues to grow its footprint in the West.

The new base will help unlock more flying from Perth, creating more opportunities for customers to travel to destinations across Australia and the Asia Pacific region.

The new base will support Jetstar’s newest route out of Perth to Christchurch, NZ which will take off for the first time on 27 October, offering more than 30,000 low-fares seats across the season.

Jetstar is also increasing flying between Perth and Melbourne, with up to four return flights a day during the summer holiday period.

Training capability for the West

The state-of-the-art Qantas Group facility will deliver Emergency Procedures (EP) training to more than 1,200 Qantas, QantasLink and Jetstar employees each year, including current crew and future recruits.

The centre integrates classroom and hands-on training in one facility, including virtual reality training area 787, A330, 737 and A320 door trainers, A321 narrow body trainer, escape slide and rafts.

An E190 trainer will be installed at the EP Training Centre early next year to support QantasLink’s E190’s entry into service.

Jetstar’s newest Perth-based recruits are currently completing ground school training in the facility.

Fleet upgrades

The Qantas Group is also investing in the aircraft that support its growing Western Australian operations.

QantasLink’s first Embraer E190 touched down in Perth last month, while nineteen Perth-based QantasLink A320s are being fitted with Wi-Fi and undergoing seat and cabin upgrades.

Work on the first aircraft is now complete with the aircraft set to enter service this week.

Qantas Group CEO, Vanessa Hudson said:

“Western Australia is one of the Qantas Group’s most important growth markets, and over the coming years Perth is set to become our second-largest international gateway after Sydney, Ms Hudson said.

“We’re backing that growth with more local jobs, new aircraft, additional flights and investment in world-class training facilities.

“The new Jetstar cabin crew base is an important investment in our people and in our growing operations in Western Australia. It will create long-term local employment opportunities while supporting Jetstar’s expanding network from Perth.

“Our new Emergency Procedures Training Centre will also play a critical role in supporting growth across Qantas, QantasLink and Jetstar in the West, giving our crew access to high-quality, hands-on training locally rather than travelling East.”

WA Premier and Tourism, Trade and Investment Minister the Hon. Roger Cook MLA said:

“My government is delivering a diversified WA economy, supporting local jobs, and creating new opportunities that will benefit Western Australians for generations to come.

“The opening of the Qantas Group Emergency Procedures Training Centre and new Jetstar crew base in Perth is fantastic for Western Australia, as it will strengthen local training capability and create skilled job opportunities for Western Australians.

“Perth is making its mark as an important hub for aviation, tourism, and trade, and partnerships like this help position Western Australia as a key strategic gateway.”
