Tuesday, 31 October 2023: Jetstar’s inaugural flight from Brisbane to Tokyo (Narita) took off this morning, offering close to 250,000 seats a year between the two destinations.

Using its fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliners, Jetstar will operate five return flights a week before ramping up to a daily service from December.

Jetstar is the first low-cost carrier to fly from Brisbane to Tokyo, providing a non-stop connection from Queensland’s capital to the world’s biggest city.

The new flights, which are supported by Brisbane Airport, are expected to inject millions of dollars into Southeast Queensland’s tourism economy.

The Brisbane to Tokyo service is the first of three new Jetstar routes to be launched, directly linking Southeast Queensland with Japan and South Korea.

From February 2024, the airline will start four weekly return flights from Brisbane to Osaka (Kansai) and three return flights a week between Brisbane and Seoul (Incheon).

The new flights between Brisbane and Osaka and Brisbane and Seoul are supported by Queensland’s Attracting Aviation Investment Fund (AAIF).

Jetstar Group CEO, Stephanie Tully, said the new flights from Brisbane to Tokyo, Osaka and Seoul will unlock more than 480,000 new seats a year.

“Experience tells us that our great value fares will stimulate travel demand into Southeast Queensland from Tokyo, Osaka and Seoul.

“This influx of tourists will boost the state’s economy while also giving Queenslanders the chance to take off more and explore these incredibly beautiful and exciting cities.”

Brisbane Airport Corporation CEO, Gert-Jan de Graaff, has welcomed the new flights.

“We know cost of living is a huge issue right now so the injection of thousands of low-cost seats into the market is very welcome at a time when every dollar counts.

“The new flights to Tokyo, Osaka and Seoul are part of a major partnership between Jetstar and Brisbane Airport.”
