Jewellery and cosmetics to bring Christmas sparkle

The Executive Director of the Australian Retailers Association, Russell Zimmerman, anticipates Australians will adorn themselves with jewellery and cosmetics this Christmas, as the ARA and Roy Morgan predict Australians will spend almost $53bn from November 14 to December 25 across the entire retail sector.

Mr Zimmerman said that jewellers would shine over Christmas, driving 3% growth in the “Clothing, Footwear and Accessories” category, while cosmetics would enjoy a lively festive trade to top off a strong twelve months.

“There are some great deals available for shoppers on every budget to spoil their special someone this Christmas, or even spoil themselves with a purchase that will have them glowing,” Mr Zimmerman said.

The Managing Director of Jimaco, Carson Webb, said their stores enjoyed a strong year and were ready for a big ten days. Mr Webb revealed customers were drawn back to diamonds and coloured stone jewellery accessories at Christmas, particularly earrings and pendants, with a range of fresh designs available.

“We are experiencing growth in the fine jewellery category again as people want something different or created just for them – our independent stores all like to treat their clientele like family, and offer something special and unique and can create the ideal ring or pendant to perfectly compliment them,” said Mr Webb.

Chairman and Co-Founder of Chemist Warehouse Group, Jack Gance, said positive momentum since Black Friday brought confidence for a strong Christmas, as fragrances and cosmetics prove popular with customers.

“At Chemist Warehouse we have refreshed our range of fragrances and cosmetics, and we expect customers to flock to our revamped beauty areas to our newly sourced items as Christmas approaches,” Mr Gance said.

Retailers of jewellery and cosmetic products are working hard to catch the attention of consumers as Christmas approaches, with shoppers spoilt for high quality gift choices to bring their friends and family festive cheer.

“It’s a wonderful time of year as twinkling lights cover homes and songs lift our spirits, and you’ll see people shine with excitement at the thought of unwrapping a gift that makes them sparkle,” Mr Zimmerman concluded.
