Construction is well underway on 78 new social housing homes at the John Stokes Residential Precinct.
The residential precinct forms part of the wider $45 million commitment to redevelop John Stokes Square, providing a central community hub, improving the lifestyle and reinvigorating the area.
Local business Greenspace is delivering these works, which is due to be completed by the end of June 2022. The project will see 78 new social housing dwellings delivered for eligible Territorians.
These new social housing homes will be managed by a Community Housing Provider, with the Territory Government today calling for expressions of interest from registered community housing providers (CHPs), to provide asset and tenancy management services.
The Territory Labor Government is growing and transforming the community housing sector across the Northern Territory. This transfer of asset and tenancy management services to the community housing sector is one of several growth opportunities being delivered for CHPs operating in the Northern Territory, with an extensive pipeline of works anticipated to be coming on stream over the next 12 months.
The successful CHP will take on the management of the Precinct and be responsible for providing asset and tenancy management of the 78 new social housing dwellings. The successful CHP will also manage the community spaces, common areas and grounds.
Recently the Territory Government awarded the community housing economic modelling tender which will see up to 40 per cent or 2,500 urban public housing dwellings being transferred to the community housing sector within eight years, creating more investment opportunities to develop new and renew old public housing assets.
