Joint operation targets Finks OMCG inmates in NSW correctional facilities

Prescription drugs have been seized at Goulburn Correctional Centre following a joint state-wide operation targeting inmates associated with the Finks outlaw motorcycle gang (OMCG).

The Criminal Groups Squad’s Strike Force Raptor and Corrective Services NSW conducted a one-day proactive operation targeting Finks OMCG members and associates at six correctional centres to disrupt and suppress further criminal acts.

The operation involved 22 cell searches at Cessnock, Parklea, Silverwater, Oberon, Junee, and Goulburn facilities last Thursday (28 November 2019).

At the Goulburn facility prescription drugs were allegedly found in kitchen equipment of two and three inmates were allegedly found in possession of prescribed restricted substances.

Inquires are continuing and charges are expected to be laid.

Criminal Groups Squad Commander, Detective Superintendent Deb Wallace, said partnerships between law enforcement are important to disrupt criminal enterprises.

“The community should take comfort in the fact we are weakening OMCGs and causing disruption to their criminal groups while they attempt to recruit or commit other offences while in custody,” Det Supt Wallace said.

“Strike Force Raptor is relentless in pursuing OMCGs and will use all available law enforcement methods to disable their criminal activities.”

Corrective Services NSW Commissioner Peter Severin praised the officers involved.

“This successful operation required a well-planned, coordinated approach involving our elite Security Operations Group and correctional centre staff. It was a job well done,” Mr Severin said.

Strike Force Raptor was established in 2009 and conducts proactive investigations and intelligence-based, high-impact policing operations to prevent and disrupt conflicts, and dismantle any network engaged in serious organised criminal activity.
