Bay of Shoals Wines has a maritime theme. It can be found north of Kingscote, overlooking Bay of Shoals and Reeves Point. The cellar door is open seven days; try Rosé, Sparkling Rosé and late harvest Riesling. The vines are hand pruned and the grapes, handpicked.

Dudley Wines is one of the island’s original wineries. The cellar door is open seven days. Drop in and taste the full range. Stay for the afternoon and relax on the deck overlooking Backstairs Passage (the section of water separating the island from the mainland). Indulge in a platter of regional produce.

The first commercial Kangaroo Island wine was produced at Amadio Wines under the Kangaroo Island Trading Company brand. You’ll find the cellar door in Kingscote.

False Cape Wines run the largest vineyard on Kangaroo Island and, along with winemaker Greg Follett (Lake Breeze Wines), make wines with excellent varietal characters and age well. The Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet are award winners. False Cape Wines can be found at most bottle shops and restaurants around Kangaroo Island.

Something more spirited

For something different, try Kangaroo Island Spirits. It’s the island’s only boutique distillery. Its range includes six liqueurs, three vodkas and a premium gin. The cellar door is open Wednesday through Sunday.

Kangaroo Island Ciders produce alcoholic ciders and a non-alcoholic sparkling apple juice. Their cellar door is at Emu Ridge Eucalyptus.

For beer lovers, Kangaroo Island Brewery which was established in 2015 offers a wide range of KI craft beers, while the Drunken Drone Brewery’s Honey Wheat Ale is available at Clifford’s Honey Farm.

At Kangaroo Island Brewery, all the beers brewed are made on site using water from the shed roof. They include various ales, a stout and Mexican style KIB Cerveza.

Drunken Drone is a small microbrewery which started with a Honey Wheat Ale, hand-crafted in small batches using traditional mash brewing techniques.

BOUTIQUE WINES

Hazyblur Wines is a small boutique winery established in 1998 with Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris planted in 2001.

Lathami Wines is located on the north coast of Kangaroo Island, with Shiraz vines planted in 2000, followed by southern Italian white variety Fiano, planted in 2009.

Snow Dragon Wines is a new label for a 25-year-old vineyard, formerly known as Cape d’Estaing. Premium red wines are made from grapes grown exclusively on Kangaroo Island.
