Keeping Multicultural Communities And Their Spaces Safe

VIC Premier

Every Victorian deserves respect and support, no matter who they are, where they’re from or who they pray to.

At a time when our diversity is under attack – the Allan Labor Government is reaffirming our commitment to multicultural and multifaith communities.

Minister for Multicultural and Multifaith Victoria Ingrid Stitt today announced the successful recipients of the 2025-26 Multicultural Infrastructure and Security Program (MISP).

57 organisations will share in close to $6 million of funding to upgrade, maintain and secure their communal gathering spaces.

Minister Stitt visited Kali Mata Mandir Craigieburn and the Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East in Coolaroo to make the announcement.

This program ensures all Victorians have safe, accessible and culturally appropriate spaces to gather, celebrate their heritage and practise their faith.

The funding can be used for renovations, refurbishments and security upgrades to existing community facilities.

The Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East will receive over $380,000 in funding to support security upgrades including exterior security lighting, security camera system and inground bollards.

Kali Mata Mandir will receive over $80,000 to upgrade their security camera system and lighting at their temple.

Funded projects through this round of MISP reflect Victoria’s diversity, supporting around 24 ethnicities and 14 faiths.

This year’s recipients include new and emerging organisations that have not previously received multicultural infrastructure funding.

15 funded projects are based in regional and rural areas, with a further 42 supporting metropolitan communities.

We know the harm a One Nation Liberal coalition will cause. They’ve gone after multicultural communities before and we know they’ll do it again.

Labor will always help ensure all Victorians can participate safely in community life, free from racism, vilification and discrimination.
