Keeping Your Dog Secure: Port Adelaide Enfield

The majority of reported dog incidents over the past few months have involved dogs that have escaped their properties to attack or harass other dogs being walked nearby. This is quite a scary experience as victims can be left to defend themselves if no person is nearby to assist them. It is especially important to take extra care if your dog is not well socialised, does not like other dogs or has territorial aggression.

We encourage you to report all attacks or harassments to us so that staff can investigate thoroughly and appropriate measures can be put in place to prevent any further incident.

To avoid these types of incidents please

  • Assess your property to ensure it is capable of containing your dog, while considering your breed and its specific needs.
  • Ensure that any holes or gaps in the fences are repaired and regularly monitored, and that your dog is not able to dig under the fence or jump out using materials inside the property.
  • Make sure side gates, roller doors and driveway gates are kept closed at all times, and locked wherever possible.
  • If expecting visitors ensure your dog does not have direct access to the front door when they arrive or when they leave.
  • If your dog is going with you, make sure it’s on a leash while moving from inside your home or backyard, until securely in the car.
  • Make sure your dog is microchipped and is wearing correct identification, so it can be returned safely in the event your dog does escape your property.
