About 2.35pm, a white Toyota Hilux tray-top utility towing a trailer was travelling north-east along Third Avenue when the load it was carrying became dislodged and struck a pedestrian.
The pedestrian, a 53-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries and was conveyed by ambulance to Royal Perth Hospital.
The driver of the Toyota Hilux, a 25-year-old man, is assisting police with their inquiries.
