There was a great turn out for the Get Ready Family Fun day in Kempsey on Sunday 18 September.

After so many recent disasters, the day was an opportunity for the community to get together and have some fun. It was also an opportunity to get advice from our emergency services to learn how to be better prepared for a future emergency.

Community Recovery Officer, Beth Bickford said attendance at the fun day completely exceeded expectations.

‘We had more than 1200 people attend the day. The weather was kind, and it was great to see everyone smiling and enjoying themselves. Many of our local emergency services were set up on the day with activities and demonstrations. They were thrilled to be able to talk to so many people about making sure they were prepared for an emergency or disaster,’ Ms Bickford said.

There were lots of activities, prizes and giveaways on the day for the kids. The colouring competition received over 80 entries. A big thank you to all who participated and congratulations to the competition winners. They’ve each won a family pass to Billabong Zoo.
