Mildura Rural City Council has released two important plans for public comment, aimed at preserving and protecting our region’s native vegetation, environment and wetlands.
The Native Vegetation Plan 2020-2024 and Invasive Plants and Animals Plan 2020-2024 are key documents in the push to preserve our natural environment for generations to come.
Both plans are open for public comment until Saturday 20 June.
Native Vegetation Plan 2020-2024
This plan focuses on preserving and enhancing our region’s native vegetation, including revegetating impacted areas with indigenous species.
It also addresses roadside native vegetation management and aims to increase connectivity of remnant vegetation patches.
Invasive Plants and Animals Plan 2020–2024
This plan focuses on control of invasive species across Council managed land including parks, gardens, natural areas, and municipal roadsides.
It includes measures to manage and reduce threats and prevent the introduction and establishment of new and emerging invasive species.
Councillor for Environment and Farming Sustainability Anthony Cirillo said both plans would play important roles in preserving our unique natural environment.
“Our natural environment is one of our region’s most important assets for so many reasons,” Cr Cirillo said.
“It’s the reason many of us choose to live in Sunraysia, and is also the reason many tourists visit our region.
“Most importantly, we need to preserve what we’re so fortunate to be surrounded with so it can be enjoyed and appreciated for generations to come.
“These two plans are central to our strategy to protect this environment from a Local Government perspective.”
