Kidnap and assault charges at Gold Coast

Four people have been charged after Moreton’s Dog Squad located a stolen vehicle at Burpengary early Saturday morning.

The group allegedly stole the vehicle from Southport after entering an apartment on Marine Parade just after 6pm on Friday night.

After entering the apartment, they allegedly forced the 30-year-old male victim into his car before driving off. They also allegedly stole a motorcycle owned by the man.

The man was allegedly driven to a location nearby where the group made threats and assaulted him. He managed to escape the car after it stopped at a service station on Brisbane Road at Labrador.

Emergency services were called to the service station where the 30-year-old man was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital with serious facial injuries.

Around 1am on Saturday, dog squad officers were called to a stolen BMW X5 located on Aquatic Centre Drive.

A 21-year-old woman and 34-year-old man were arrested without incident while a third, a 25-year-old man, allegedly obstructed police and was apprehended by a police dog.

A 26-year-old man handed himself into police in Brisbane around 2pm yesterday.

Gold Coast Detective Inspector Chris Ahearn praised the cooperative police work to locate and apprehend the alleged offenders quickly.

“Significant resources were deployed to locate these alleged offenders and return the stolen property to the victim.

“We remain absolutely committed to disrupting crime to ensure the safety of our communities,” Detective Inspector Ahearn said.

The 25-year-old Arundel man was charged with one count each of kidnapping, enter dwelling with intent, armed robbery, assault occasioning bodily harm, obstructing police and possessing dangerous drugs. He was also charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

A 34-year-old Broadbeach man has also been charged with one count each of kidnapping, enter dwelling with intent, armed robbery, assault occasioning bodily harm, driving a vehicle without a licence and offences involving registration certificates. He was also charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

A 26-year-old Varsity Lakes man was charged with one count each of kidnapping, enter dwelling with intent, armed robbery, assault occasioning bodily harm. He was also charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The men were all refused police bail to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today.

A 21-year-old Surfers Paradise woman will also appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today after being charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
