Kids, read your way to an iPad mini these school holidays

The school holidays start this week and what better way to beat the heat than by heading to the air-conditioned library to enjoy a program of free and fun activities.

“The school holidays are a fantastic time for families to recharge, reconnect and reset for the year ahead. The City of Darwin School Holiday Program has activities for everyone to enjoy”, said Acting Lord Mayor Andrew Arthur.

“For one lucky reader, delving into their favourite books could be all the more sweet with an iPad mini up for grabs for a member of the Summer Reading Club.”

The national Summer Reading Club will return to City of Darwin Libraries and in more than a thousand public libraries across the country for another fun-filled season.

Created for children and young people pre-school age to 17, the Summer Reading Club is a free program led by State Library of Queensland that inspires imaginations and instils a love of libraries and reading.

The 2018 theme, Curious Creatures, encourages eager young readers to discover new worlds as they explore and connect with a curiosity of creatures through a range of interactive activities available in libraries and online.

City of Darwin’s School Holiday Program, including the Summer Reading Club, takes place across all four Darwin libraries, with free activities suited for all ages.

Summer Reading Club will run from 14 December 2018 to 25 January 2019. Highlights at City of Darwin Libraries include:

  • Incentives provided for each reading milestone reached.
  • A chance to win an iPad mini.
  • A Summer Reading Club party at Casuarina Library at 2pm, Friday 25 January 2019.
  • Plus a range of different activities and workshops over the school holidays.

The Summer Reading Club has the support of local Darwin businesses, The Bookshop Darwin and Crocodylus Park, who have provided prizes and incentives for local children and young people.
