Kimberley community safety grants now open

  • Kimberley Community Action Fund Grants now open
  • $1 million available for community-led projects that reduce crime and improve community safety
  • Round one of the McGowan Government’s Kimberley Community Action Fund (KCAF) Grants program is now open, supporting regional communities, businesses and organisations to invest in community safety and youth engagement projects.

The KCAF is part of the McGowan Government’s $40.4 million investment in juvenile justice and wellbeing projects for the Kimberley.

The program will provide $1 million in grant funding this year to support projects which reduce crime, improve community safety and security, provide engaging activities and places for young people at risk of offending, and enhance community empowerment.

The funding, administered through the Kimberley Development Commission, is available for everything from physical building security and improved lighting, to innovative ways of engaging families to keep kids safe and off the streets at night.

Applications are now open and will close on June 30, 2022.

More information about the KCAF Grants program, including guidelines and application details, are available online at https://kdc.wa.gov.au/funding

As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

“Over the past few months, we have heard many positive ideas from Kimberley people about what is needed to tackle crime in individual towns and communities.

“These grants will help empower people to turn those ideas into action.

“This is just one part of our broader plan to break the cycle of youth offending in the Kimberley.”

As stated by Kimberley MLA Divina D’Anna:

“This program offers local communities and businesses support for grassroots ideas that address community safety in our region.

“We encourage anyone with an idea that will support our communities to apply for the program and together, we can help to manage these challenges.”
