Knox welcomes Australia’s newest citizens

On Saturday, 191 people from 36 countries became Australian citizens at Knox’s citizenship ceremony.

This year, Knox has hosted 16 citizenship ceremonies and welcomed over 1,300 new citizens. Citizenship ceremonies are significant events for each new citizen, with many people living in Australia for years, or even decades, before becoming a citizen.

Knox City Council Mayor, Cr Susan Laukens welcomed new citizens to the Australian family and the local Knox community.

“Australia is a successful multicultural nation and we see this in the City of Knox every day,” she said.

“We have residents from all corners of the globe living, working, learning and playing together. 33% of us were born overseas. Within our municipality over 80 languages are spoken and there are 41 different religions.”

She said Knox was committed to being a city that welcomes new citizens and embraces cultural and religious diversity.

The Knox community wrote 66 letters welcoming the new citizens, which were on display on Saturday.
