Knoxfield Intersection Upgrade Complete

Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

The Albanese and Carroll Labor governments are making Melbourne’s east safer, with major works at the busy Henderson Road and Ferntree Gully Road intersection in Knoxfield now complete.

The upgrade will improve safety, ease congestion and make journeys more reliable for the 40,000 drivers who use Ferntree Gully Road every day.

Since major works began in March, crews have:

• Built a new left-turn slip lane from Henderson Road onto Ferntree Gully Road

• Installed and extended right-turn lanes into Henderson Road from Ferntree Gully Road

• Extended existing right-turn lane and left-turn slip lane into St Laurent Rise

• Installed bicycle priority crossings and bicycle crossing lanterns

• Upgraded the Harley Street bus stop

• Upgraded drainage, kerbs and pavement on Ferntree Gully Road

• Installed safety barriers across the project area, and

• Relocated power poles and other utilities to support the road widening.

The final stage of major works was completed earlier this month.

The nearby Henderson Road and Kelletts Road intersection has also been upgraded to improve traffic flow and allow safer movements in and out of Henderson Road.

Traffic on Henderson Road has grown significantly since the Henderson Road bridge opened over Corhanwarrabul Creek.

This project was delivered by VIDA Roads and fully funded by the Australian Government with a $14.26 million commitment to the Henderson Road Upgrades project.

Only Labor is getting on with delivering safer roads for Melbourne’s east.
