La Trobe University has achieved its best ever rating in the Asia-Pacific region following today’s release of new Times Higher Education rankings.
La Trobe rose six places to 50th in the 2019 THE Asia-Pacific University Rankings against more than 300 universities across East Asia, South-East Asia and Oceania.
La Trobe has also placed third among Victorian universities.
La Trobe Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Dewar, said the rankings rise comes despite tough competition in the region.
“The Asia-Pacific is one of the fastest growing higher education regions in the world and is home to many established and emerging universities,” Professor Dewar said.
“For La Trobe to be rated so highly in this region is an achievement of which we are incredibly proud and reflects our commitment to high quality teaching and research.
“It’s a wonderful start to the new academic year, as we welcome new and existing students to our campuses.”
The 2019 THE Asia Pacific University Rankings use the same indicators as the THE World Rankings, adjusted to reflect the younger profile of some of the universities.
Universities from 13 countries including Australia, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and Thailand were ranked.
Last year La Trobe also achieved its highest position this decade in the overall THE World Rankings. The University moved up to be placed 341 in the world.
The University ranks in the top 400 universities worldwide by the major independent rankings agencies – 317th in the ARWU global rankings and 397th in the QS World University Rankings.
