La Trobe statement

On behalf of everyone in the La Trobe University community, our thoughts and best wishes go out today to the families and communities impacted by the abhorrent act of hatred in Christchurch, New Zealand.

This appalling attack will only serve to further unite us and strengthen our respect and tolerance for people from all faiths, cultures and backgrounds.

La Trobe deeply values cultural and religious diversity, and we reaffirm that students and staff of all faiths are warmly welcome at La Trobe. As a sign of respect and solidarity we are arranging for flags on our campuses to fly at half mast.

At this stage we are not aware of any staff or students who have been directly affected by this attack, though we recognise that the impact of this tragedy will be deeply felt by many within our La Trobe community.

Anyone needing support is encouraged to contact our support services including Speak Up and International Student Services for students, and EAP for staff.
