Labor is backing local councils with new tech and more resources to make public places safer.
Councils have been calling for this support – and Labor will deliver it.
The Labor Government is today opening the $10 million Creating Safer Places grants program.
Councils can apply for up to $250,000 to buy practical upgrades such as CCTV and improved lighting.
This will help councils protect local businesses, workers and customers by making shopping strips and community spaces safer.
Councils know their communities best, so they will identify where upgrades can make the biggest difference.
This builds on Labor’s plan to give Victoria Police the resources it needs to fight crime.
We’ve built Australia’s biggest police force and put more police where they’re needed most by recruiting 200 more PSOs and 400 reservists.
Yesterday Labor announced a re-elected Carroll Labor Government will deliver a comprehensive plan for 1,500 more police:
- We will open a second metro police academy – in Wyndham
- We will support police with triple-squad graduations through metro and regional academies
- We will bring in more trainers, upgrade facilities and speed up recruitment for ADF veterans and PSOs.
Jess Wilson’s Liberal-One Nation Coalition is promising $40 billion in cuts.
That means one thing: cuts to the police and courts that are holding criminals to account.
Only Labor will fight for working people and invest in their safety.
