The Albanese and Carroll Labor Governments are supporting Melbourne’s growing north-west by upgrading the Calder Freeway and Calder Park Drive Interchange.
Concept designs have been released, giving Victorians their first look at the proposed project design.
Community consultation is now open, so locals can have their say.
The plan includes:
- A new diamond interchange at Calder Park Drive
- Realigning the Calder Freeway as a four-lane overpass over Calder Park Drive
- Future proofing the Calder Freeway for six lanes
- Increasing the speed limit on the Calder Freeway to 100 km/h.
The design will improve safety and make journeys more reliable for the 39,000 vehicles that use the Calder Freeway each day.
By raising the freeway, city-bound drivers will experience more direct journeys with some no longer required to make a U-turn.
With the proposed project design, Calder Park Raceway and Organ Pipes National Park will remain accessible to the public via the new interchange and local road network.
Early designs have been informed by site investigations and previous community feedback.
Construction timeframes will be confirmed once planning and environmental approvals progress.
The upgrades are funded through the Australian and Victorian governments’ $1.245 billion Road Blitz initiative, with $287.5 million from the Australian Government and $57.5 million from the Victorian Government allocated to upgrading the Calder Freeway and Calder Park Drive interchange.
