Labor rules out NBN policy reform

Australian Conservatives Release

Labor has ruled out a large-scale upgrade of the National Broadband Network in a new strategy that concedes the party will struggle to “make the best of what we have”.

Conservative Party leader Cory Bernardi warned about such off balance sheet boondoggle projects in his 2017 Budget Reply Speech.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports, in a speech on Tuesday, Labor’s communications spokeswoman Michelle Rowland observed the rollout of the network is forecast to be complete by 2020 and the business plan does not contain funding for major upgrades.

Communications Minister Mitch Fifield said, “For years we were told by Labor that using a range of technologies, like the rest of the world, was not an option. Today, the Coalition’s policy has become Labor’s policy.”
