Lake Wyangan Roads Now Open

Griffith City Council is pleased to announce that Mallinson and Abattoir Roads are now open to traffic, following the finalisation of outstanding land title requirements.

The intersection upgrade forms part of the Lake Wyangan Residential Housing Enabling Infrastructure Development project, which is delivering essential civil infrastructure to support the future development of around 500 new homes in the Lake Wyangan area.

Council has been actively advocating for the outstanding land title transfer to be resolved, including the Mayor writing directly to the Minister responsible for the relevant department seeking urgent assistance. Council is pleased that this advocacy has helped achieve the outcome needed to enable the roads to open.

Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said the opening was a welcome outcome for the community.

“This has been a frustrating and inconvenient period for residents and road users, particularly as the physical works had already been completed,” he said.

“We thank the community for its patience while the remaining administrative requirements were worked through. It is great to see these roads now open and this important project moving forward.”

While speed zones are signposted, they are enforceable and motorists are required to comply with the posted speed limit.

Funding for the project was secured through the Australian Government’s Housing Support Program, together with contributions from the Lake Wyangan Development Contribution Plan.
