Land Acquired For New School In Clyde North

VIC Premier

Students in Melbourne’s southeast will soon have better access to a great education, with the Andrews Labor Government acquiring land for a new primary school in Clyde North.

Families in one of Melbourne’s fastest-growing communities will have a quality local school, close to home – with the site chosen for a brand-new primary school on Thompsons Road in the City of Casey.

The planned delivery of Thompsons West Primary School (interim name) will give up to 650 local students a place to learn, thrive and make lifelong friendships.

From 2025, the new school will support local families by increasing capacity for growing student numbers in the area and relieving pressure on existing schools – giving families more choice, and giving students the quality education they need to reach their full potential.

With construction set to start in October 2023, the modern facilities will help equip young learners with the skills they need to succeed in schooling and life.

The school will be built with a share of $573.2 million invested in the Victorian Budget 2023/24, which will give students in growing communities across Victoria access to world-class education, no matter where they live.

The Labor Government is powering ahead to build 100 new schools by 2026. 84 of these are already open or funded, including 14 set to open next year – as well as an extra $26 million invested to fund the planning of the remaining 100 schools.

Since 2018, the Government has invested $1 billion to acquire land for new schools, giving every Victorian student the best facilities to match the quality of Victorian education.

In the past nine years, the Labor Government has invested more than $14.9 billion to build new schools and deliver more than 1,940 school upgrades.
