Large-scale police operation in Sydney’s south-west after home invasions, carjackings, and high-speed crash

A police operation is underway in Sydney’s south-west this morning, following two home invasions, two carjackings, and a high-speed crash.

About 7am (Saturday 9 March 2019), four men wearing balaclavas broke into a home on Francis St Fairfield.

A woman was assaulted, before the men went into a granny flat and assaulted a man with an iron bar.

They fled in a white Mercedes and the two occupants were taken to hospital for treatment.

About 8.45am, a second home invasion occurred on Anton Place, Bonnyrigg.

Four balaclava-clad men threatened the occupants of the home.

Police have been told two of the men were armed with firearms and during the confrontation a round was discharged inside the house. It’s not believed anyone was injured.

Shortly after, a white Mercedes was seen driving at speeds of up to 200km/h along the M5 at Moorebank.

As the vehicle neared the Moorebank Avenue off-ramp, it crashed into hit another car and caught alight.

Four men wearing balaclavas got out of the Mercedes and two fled on foot.

A grey Nissan Navara 4WD was carjacked by two of the men.

This vehicle was abandoned a short time later at a service station on Newbridge Road at Moorebank, when a second vehicle – a yellow Holden Commodore – was carjacked.

Two men have since been arrested, one who was on the roof of a home on Grevillea Crescent, Prestons, and another at a school on Kurrajong Road, Prestons.

The man who was on the roof of the house was taken to Liverpool Hospital. His condition is not known.

As inquiries continue, police are asking anyone who sights the yellow 2010 model Holden Commodore (with NSW registration plates DAN-359) to contact Triple Zero (000) immediately.

Police are urging the public not to approach the vehicle, as its occupants are considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
