Late-night social scroll leads to $4 million Oz Lotto discovery

The Lott

A social media post has prompted a Williamstown woman to check her Oz Lotto ticket, leading her to discover she’d won a staggering $4 million in Tuesday night’s draw.

The Melburnian held the only division one winning entry nationally in Oz Lotto draw 1696, drawn Tuesday 18 August 2026 and scored $4 million.

For days, the newly-minted multi-millionaire unknowingly carried an unregistered Oz Lotto ticket worth $4 million.

“Yay! I can’t believe it!” she exclaimed.

“I checked it last night and I’ve barely slept.

“I forgot about the ticket until I was scrolling on Facebook and I saw one of your posts.

“The post said there was a mystery winner in Oz Lotto and that they purchased their ticket at Laverton Authorised Newsagency.

“I checked the ticket before bed, and I immediately thought something was wrong. I couldn’t believe it. I still haven’t told my partner about the news because I wasn’t sure if it was true.

“But now that I’m speaking with you, it’s starting to feel real.

“This is only the second lottery ticket that I’ve purchased this year! I’m feeling incredibly lucky.

“I can’t wait to tell my partner now, but I have to wait until he finishes work tonight!

“Thank you!”

With a multi-million-dollar boost coming her way, the Victorian revealed a couple of plans she had in mind with the bounty.

“I will pay off my house! I bought my house last year and now I can pay it off which is exciting!” she shared.

“I would love to donate some of the prize to animal charities, and I might treat myself to some travelling.”

Her winning entry was purchased at Laverton Authorised Newsagency, 12 Aviation Road, Laverton.

Laverton Authorisied Newsagency owner Ashima Kala said she was thrilled to have sold a division one winning entry in Oz Lotto.

“We’re very excited! It’s always great news when we sell a division one winning entry. We’ve sold 10 division one winning entries in the last 20 years,” she said.

“We’ve been celebrating the winning news with all of our customers and they’ve been very happy for us and the customer.

“Congratulations to the winner! We wish them a healthy and prosperous life, and good luck to all of our customers who might be our next division one winner.”
