Latest round of WasteSorted Infrastructure Grants announced

  • More than $2 million in grants awarded to waste infrastructure projects
  • Recipients focused on food and garden organics and textiles recycling
  • Projects estimated to avoid 160,000 tonnes of waste disposal per annum

Businesses throughout regional Western Australia and metropolitan Perth are sharing in more than $2 million in funding following the latest round of WasteSorted Infrastructure Grants.

The program’s latest round focussed on supporting entities dealing in either food and garden organics or textiles, such as clothing and other fabrics sent for recovery and reprocessing.

Infrastructure funded as part of this latest round included facilities and equipment that can support the sorting and decontamination of recovered materials, as well as enable the processing of high-quality materials and product conversions.

These projects carry a combined value of more than $23 million and are expected to avoid an estimated 160,000 tonnes of waste disposal to landfill per annum.

As stated by Environment Minister Reece Whitby:

“The Cook Government is committed to supporting the recycling industry as Western Australia makes headway towards being a low-waste, sustainable State.

“These grants will allow businesses to improve their capacity to recover, reuse, recycle and repurpose materials that might otherwise go to landfill.

“The variety and quality of the applications demonstrates the commitment of the waste sector in driving the State towards a circular economy.”
