Leadership opportunity for young people – East Gippsland

Young people are being encouraged to apply for a free program that will build their leadership skills and help make East Gippsland better for young residents.

East Gippsland Shire Council is looking for people aged 12 to 25 to join the Youth Ambassador Program.

The program has been running for a number of years and is open to young people living, studying and/or working in East Gippsland.

Support with travel and online meeting options is available to help people take part in the program.

The Youth Ambassador Program is a peer-led committee of Council designed to assist local government in understanding and meeting the needs of young people in East Gippsland. It’s also a fun way to volunteer and have input into planning, design and activities that you want to see in your community.

Youth Ambassadors are dedicated, enthusiastic leaders of positive change in their community, a group with the unique opportunity to influence and lead change. Made up of various ages, skills, abilities and backgrounds members are empowered and can choose areas of focus and interests to develop skills and networks in a supported and inclusive environment.

Councillor Kirsten Van Diggele said becoming a Youth Ambassador provides an opportunity for young people to discuss youth issues, have a meaningful engagement with Council and have a say about the future of their community.

“Youth Ambassadors are driving positive change for young people in East Gippsland and their mission is to ensure young people are engaged and feel valued as citizens in the community,” Cr Van Diggele said.

“I encourage young people to apply and participate in training opportunities, community consultations and events as well as develop and implement their own action plan with goals and ambitions they work towards achieving each year.”

To apply, please visit the Youth page.

While there is no set closing date, Council is encouraging people to submit their application as soon as possible so they can be considered for a leadership skills development opportunity being planned for December.
