Leaping into grant funding for Leppington

Council accepted $23.61 million in grant funding at Tuesday’s Ordinary Meeting, to help deliver key projects as part of developments at Leppington.

The funding, from the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE), under the Accelerated Infrastructure Fund (AIF) – Round 2, will assist in progressing the Scalabrini East and Heath Road projects, both within the Leppington Precinct 1.

The work will include:

  • Construction of Byron Road, between Heath and Ingleburn Road;
  • Design and construction of riparian corridor, drainage, and open space facilities from Scalabrini Creek to the east of Rickard Road; and
  • Design and construction of Heath Road, between Dickson Road and Camden Valley Way.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said projects like these would help new and existing residents live and travel more comfortably.

“These projects are based on items within the Camden Growth Areas Contribution Plan and this plan will fund the difference between the grant and the strategic cost estimate,” Cr Fedeli said.

“The Camden area is one of the fastest growing local government areas in the country. It’s terrific to see so many new people proudly call Camden home – a place where they can build their dream homes, achieve business and professional goals and raise their families.

“I’d like to thank The Hon. Anthony Roberts MP, Minister for Planning and Homes, for the grant and Mr Peter Sidgreaves MP, Member for Camden, for his support.”

Council also accepted other funding at Tuesday’s Ordinary Meeting, including:

  • $1,749,384 through the third round of grant funding from the Department of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, under the Australian Governments Local Roads and Community Infrastructure. While yet to be allocated to specific projects, this funding is able to go towards road and community infrastructure projects;
  • $5,000 through the NSW Government’s 2022 Women’s Week Grant Program, administered by NSW Department of Community and Justice. This funding assisted in the delivery of Council’s 2022 International Women’s Day Gala 2022; and
  • $3,836 through the NSW Government Local Youth Week Grants Program, to assist in the delivery of Camden Youth Week 2022.
